It is very important to guarantee the privacy of the participants and to secure the safety of the data. Respondents' information will only be used for the Prison Project and data will never be provided to other parties. All information is processed anonymously and treated strictly confidential. In any publication based on the research, results will only be presented at the group level. In such publications individual persons will never be identifiable.

To further guarantee the privacy of the respondents, the research has been submitted to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Dutch DPA). This means that the Prison Project follows the behavioral code and rules as described in the Personal Data Protection Act (Wet Bescherming Persoonsgegevens). This code assures the most careful treatment of data. In addition, the research protocol has been submitted to and reviewed positively by the Ethical Committee of Legal and Criminological Research of the Vrije University Amsterdam.
